Chronicles of Arvandor

Purple Dragon Knights

The purple dragons are primarily the standing army and private guard of the Orbarskyrs of Cormyr. Acting as the standing military of the country the purple dragons are positively regarded among the military and have been an organization existing as far back as 452DR with the slaying of Magrath the Minotaur and cemented as the royal guard to the Orbarskys with the slaying of the black dragon Thauglorimorgorus. The Ancient “purple” dragon of which the nation got its heraldry and the Orbarskyrs cemented their monarchy by slaying.

The organization primarily holds itself as a military to hold the broad yet narrow objective of the protection of Cormyr, enforcement of laws, and the acting as agents of the nation and in such work frequently alongside the “War Wizards” of the country whom act as the magical agents to maintain security of the realm. The military structure technically is a part of all cormyric training with everyone joining the Purple Dragons for two years but only the exceptional and nobility being crowned as proper knights of the realm which was regarded as a high honor. Working frequently with the War Wizards enough that both shared their ranks basic as they are starting with the Armsmen holding the title of blade and working upto the lord high marshal. Anyone can join judging that they can prove themselves of note to the crown and are interviewed and reinterviewed to ensure contentment and loyalty (even in secret meetings where War Wizards snoop on them to ensure truthfulness) and due to their organization’s scope only citizens of Cormyr or emigrants seeking high standing actively join the organization, meaning the population is predominantly human with nonhumans scruitinized slightly more due to worries of foreign influence than active biases against races or gender.

Due to their limited role, The organization isn’t adverse to other factions such as the Lord’s Alliance or Harpers. Working with these organizations when their interests align and rebuff them when they do not. Any destabilizing influence that can harm the realm of Cormyr is seen as an enemy of the organization. The Cult of the Dragon, Zentarim, Shadow Thieves and more are all enemies of the realm and influences the Purple Dragons seek to fight against to maintain peace and order throughout Faerun.
