Aasimar are the polar opposite of tieflings, typically the result of human mingling with celestial blood from the upper planes or divine avatars. Aasimar are individuals blessed with an innate connection to the divine showing their divine connection with unique powers and appearances. Seen as the opposite of tieflings, they are called to adventure either in an embracing of the calling to crusade for gods and the forces of good, but also to escape stifling social expectations of their homes or even persecution.
Body build: Taller and regarded as more beautiful individuals compared to their mortal parents.
Complexion: In most cases the aasimar’s complexion matches that of the mortal parent, though rarely can have a green tinge if descendant of a solar.
Eye Color: Can be any natural shade. Often however, can have pupiless eyes with a metallic or otherworldly color, though this is not always the case.
Hair Style: Whatever is fashionable in the lands they grew up in, typically will have longer hair but some more pious may adopt clerical styles and even shave their heads.
Hair Color: Standard natural shades though metallic hue or other unnatural colors are not unheard of.
Tone of Voice: Often regarded as caring and charismatic, or solemn with conviction the depth of range can vary as much as a human can.
Distinguishing Marks/Features: Variable depending on the aasimar in question often related to the type of celestial that was the parent to the aasimar or the bloodline in question, some related to celestial quatls or daeva may have thin scales in soft skin areas such as armpits, nape of neck or eyelids, others related to solars may have green tinged skin, unusual colored hair and pupilless metallic hued eyes, or feathers mixed into their hair or a short fuzz of them on their shoulder blades where the wings of an angel or aarakocra would emerge. However due to the variance, there are cases where an Aasimar is almost identical to their mortal parents, only showing their divine heritage in specific moments.
Clothing: Aasimar tend to dress in clothing fashionable to their culture, often however to avoid discrimination (even positive) and unwanted attention by entities such as cults to evil gods or outsiders. Aasimar tend to favor concealing clothing that can mask their features such as hooded cloaks, long sleeves, and gloves. Aasimar can also lean towards lighter colors such as sky blues, whites, and metallic colors but this isn’t a requirement for their dress.
Life Expectancy/Cycle: Matures at rate similar to humans up until adulthood, then aging slows down to where typically an Aasimar dies of old age around 160 years old with a similar age drive as half elves.
Name Examples:
Male: See human
Female: See human
Other: Unlike tieflings, aasimar do not breed true. In fact, any aasimar pairing even with other aasimar isn’t guaranteed to produce aasimar offspring and it is quite common for aasimar ancestry and heritage to skip a few generations and randomly manifest down the line on an unsuspecting parent to have a random divinely inspired child. Or aasimar ancestors to be the founding members of a divine soul sorcerer’s bloodline. This makes aasimar a rarity among planetouched enough that it is not uncommon for an aasimar to go their whole lives without meeting others of their race.
Aasimar of other humanoid races do exist, but they’re a noticed rarity even among the rare aasimar. This is due to not only other races not being as promiscuous to their deities, often seeing their pantheons as their celestial parents. But also because the Aasimar of those entities are typically called to the deities' realms to serve as divine servants, however this isn’t to say that it is an impossibility.
Language: Common and celestial, can learn any languages humans can.
Holidays/Traditions: Aasimar as being an ‘implant’ species like tieflings don’t typically have specific holidays and traditions for themselves as they do not typically form societies made solely of their members. They do feel attraction to celestial holidays typically associated with their divine patron in some fashion and in many good aligned societies pushing them into the role of clergy will bring them in the center focus of atleast preparing the holidays relevant to their chosen deity or culture.
Creation Story: The History of Aasimar dates back to approximately -4370 DR, and a great plague ravaged the Raurin empire (also known as the Immaskari Empire) that reigned in the region of the now Raurin desert. Four years after the plagues conclusion the wizards of the Raurin empire used magic to connect to another world and bring forth hundreds of thousands of captives to be used as slaves, forming the future Mulan ethnicity of the far east’s Kara tur. Praying to their deities for salvation from slavery after millenia of oppression from the gods watch mountains, their gods (the Utheric and Mulhorandi pantheons) descended onto the world as avatars, raising up the mulan people as priests and clerics and preparing them for a massive revolt against the wizard kings of the empire. As humans are want to do, the first Aasimar were said to be descendants of interbreeding between divine avatars and their chosen peoples, and afterwards other celestials have taken up the practice of siring offspring with mortal followers on rare occasions, often these bloodlines are known to lay dormant for multiple generations and it is seen as a blessing or a call of destiny to the child to be suddenly born an Aasimar to confused and possibly concerned parents.
Magic Use: Magic is useful to Aasimar whom all are capable of atleast the light cantrip, and usually either go into the church, or become paladins. Rarely more ‘manifest’ Aasimar can display arcane power through divine soul sorcery, but in general aasimar focus on divine magic rather than arcane finding it easier to call upon and master with an intrinsic ‘calling.’
Religion: (if any) Aasimar typically feel a pull to the divine from societal expectations and many often find themselves as being drawn into the church as priests, temple guards, paladins, or other pious services. Being seen as the descendants of angels and gods favor religious focuses. They are more beholden to local deities though may have untold tells such as attraction to ethoses similar to their divine parents or even just an affinity for animals sacred to that entity.
Environment: Aasimar live typically where humans are, as celestials tend to not seek long term relationships with elves or other races (nor do deities of those races seek to propagate with their ‘children’ making aasimar among non-human races rare for an already rare race.) however due to the propagation of humans. Aasimar can be found in almost any environment, with a strong population in the far east or around the ruins of the immaskari empire, though they aren’t limited to these regions.
Professions/Economy: Aasimar often are pressured into roles such as temple guard, paladin, and cleric due to their inset connection to the divine. Adventure work comes common for them to head out to fight evil (atleast openly) and some see it as a means of escape from social expectations back home
Type of Society/Government: Dependent on human cultures they hail from, especially since even among aasimar there is no true guarantee that the offspring will be another aasimar. Typically societies run by Aasimar are more inclined towards compassion and empathy with the poor more well off than their contemporaries elsewhere due to higher social programs.
Personality: Aasimar are regarded as kind hearted and empathic to others, holding an almost angelic sense of personality and morals due to their celestial blood and ties to entities of the higher planes. However, many face discrimination due to fear, curiosity or awe, and attempts to manipulate them for their own ends can often make them jaded and untrusting at first . This isn’t to say that all are good hearted, and whispers abound of ‘fallen’ aasimar who reject their celestial heritage or fall to the corrupting forces of evil.
Morals: Aasimar hold more to the upstanding morals placed on society, with many finding the morals relaying to the churches of good aligned pantheons or paladins to be attractive. They tend to hold more towards empathy of others although many are wary about first impressions given that many have had negative run ins for individuals attempting to betray their trust. They may be good natured but not gullible.
Strengths: Due to being marked by higher powers an angelic guide will give information through visions and prophecies to the aasimar while they sleep. (though it should be noted this guide is not all knowing, may have reason to alter or withhold information, and will sever the connection with Aasimar that turn evil) Aasimar also due to their innate connection to angels often are seen as more upstanding and trusted compared to other races in a polar opposite of tieflings. Aasimar are also said to be more attracted to the paladin oaths or clerical profession, seemingly learning the skills of these classes easier than most, but they are not directly limited to them. And typically aasimar unlike their human parents will have dark vision or as they grow in experience can learn to call upon their celestial powers in notable ways (see mechanics)
Weaknesses: Surprisingly for many, the cultural weakness of the Aasimar is that as a group they live their lives on a pedestal of expectations. Despite holding free will, they are expected from young ages to go into a profession such as the church to learn divine magic or take up a paladin's oath or some other aspect of religion. Their angelic guides will call them to perform feats against forces of evil, and they may not want to go down that road or the society that holds them on a pedestal may show them discriminatory positive treatment that they come to resent. And any going against the societal norm may be met with quiet yet sterner peer pressure and punishment to emphasize that they are meant to be better than everyone due to their divine heritage.
Evil entities and such will recognize aasimar and target them specifically for corruption, destruction or other fell rites simply as an easy way to defile something regarded as ‘good’ with the goddess shar and entities of the 9 hells particularly attracted to attempts at corrupting aasimar as an attempt at what an immortal can regard a long term passion project.
Fears: Aasimar also have a strong repulsion to things that are ‘evil’ often without falling aasimar will naturally have more of an instinctive aversion or distrusting of objects with an evil origin and this applies to tieflings. As empathic creatures, it is often the case that they are shown positive preferential treatment, things which when they recognize occurs their empathy makes them detest even if it benefits them.
Goals: As a race, aasimar are too divided to truly have a long term goal. The good deities typically wish that aasimar aid in driving off evil, treating them as instruments and paragons of righteousness when capable.
Allies: Aasimar hold allies in high regard and seek to protect and care for them when they can. Aasimar meeting each other is rare, but it is observed that when two do meet they often have an instinctual connection even taking each other's sides in arguments or fights despite personal beliefs. They often feel at home with half races such as half elves and half-orcs due to seeing themselves as being ‘between worlds’ like those races. Though mistrust tieflings on an instinctual level (which the feeling is mutual in many cases) and find Genasi strange.
Enemies: Aasimar are vigilant against those they see as enemies, often working to great lengths to prevent their enemies from harming those they care about, and destroying those they regard as evil with an unflinching determination.
Family/Friends: Aasimar are naturally empathic to relationships and find forming friendships easy, though they’re distrusting of others simply because they’ve often grown up in an environment where others seek to harm them, or use them to their own advantage
